Tips to make the most of your Email Marketing List

When you are looking to run an email marketing campaign to increase your sales, there are several factors to take into account in order to have the best chance of a successful campaign. We look at a few below;

Source the right Email Marketing List
This is the fuel needed to power your email marketing software. Sourcing a high quality, legal, ethical and targeted marketing list is a great starting block for your campaign and can make all the difference in the long run. Set a “Friendly” From Address
Making sure that you set a “friendly” from address is important. Receiving an email from “kat1996@email.co.uk” is not as nice or personal as “Katie Turnbull” for example.

Test More than One Version of your Email
There are several aspects of an email that can make the difference between recipients opening/reading it and sending it straight to trash so, “Split Testing” more than one version is recommended. This is a great way of optimising your email campaigns and also learning vital information for subsequent broadcasts/campaigns.

Split Testing involves testing two different email versions by sending them to a set amount of recipients from your marketing list, determining which one performs the best based on email opens/clicked links and then sending the best performing email to the rest of your list.

There are lots of different variables that can be tested here such as:
• Subject Lines
• Layout
• Images
• Fonts – sizes, colours
• Time of send

While we are on the subject of testing, before you send out any emails make sure that you send tests to different types of email providers (outlook, hotmail, gmail for example) as they can all show content differently. Although an email may look fantastic in one inbox, it may look completely different in another so it is important to keep this in mind.

With the continuing rise of smart phones & tablets, it is essential that your email creative is mobile compatible.  According to to the latest reports from Litmuss, 48% of emails are opened on a mobile device.  Make sure that your emails can be opened and, more importantly, get your sales message across on smaller mobile screens.

Use a Reputable Email Broadcasting Service
Once you have the right marketing list which is the fuel to any successful email marketing campaign, you need the right engine to run the show from behind the scenes. This is your email broadcasting software and selecting/using the right one is vital. Some broadcasting software is unable to send to purchased lists so be careful here.
